OC Most Likely Tag Game
Okay, I am so behind, I've been tagged in this one by a few different folks! So I'm gonna just aggregate it here. Thanks, @pandoras-comment-box (here), @sunset-a-story (here), @mk-writes-stuff (here), and if I missed any, I'm sorry! <3
Rules: Choose one of your OCs that best matches the given statement, and briefly explain why.
From @pandoras-comment-box:
Who's most likely to adopt a racoon/crow/skunk/fox/miscellaneous local wildlife for a pet? (Please tell the class how badly it would go. Please!) Marek. He collects critters regularly for the Uranus Pet Program, and his big heart gets the better of him sometimes, meaning that once in a blue moon, he brings in animals that... he really ought'nt. Emmett generally steps in to wrangle and relocate them more appropriately. Most likely to verbally eviscerate someone for something petty. Emmett. 100%. That man may be an Empath but his real knack is Being Mean When He Needs To (and he gets to define "need" here, of course). Most likely to go viral unintentionally. As much as I want to say Baguette, Marek would definitely do that intentionally, much to Penn's dismay. No, I think Misha is the winner here. He doesn't care about exposures as much as the folks at SolCorp do-- he has a job to do and if a shaky video of him slaying monsters ends up on the internet, that's someone else's problem.
From @sunset-a-story:
Most likely to eat a whole raw ghost pepper to prove something/impress someone. This is probably Alex? At least, in his younger years. He spent a long time feeling like he had something to prove, in general, and he definitely uses bravado to cover up insecurity. Most likely to see [OC] eating a whole raw ghost pepper and immediately go off in search of milk/ice cream/etc. Reeve. He'd hand it over with a sigh and a lecture. Most likely to have a tumblr account. Marek would try to have one strictly to post pics of Baguette and reblog hamster-related content, until Penn shut it down.
From @mk-writes-stuff:
Most likely to have someone ask for help reading their handwriting Alex, definitely. He didn't learn to read or write until he was 14. He gets the hang of reading over the years, but I don't think his handwriting ever really developed that well. Most likely to unironically buy a ridiculous hat Lee. He's the embodiment of Class Clown. People would think it was ironic, but for Lee, even if it's for a bit, it's always genuine glee. Most likely to scream at someone Scott. As much as Emmett is King of Burns, Scott has a real anger problem. His temper gets the better of him more often than he'd like, though he does his best.
I'll no-pressure tag: @aalinaaaaaa @ceph-the-ghost-writer @an-elegant-void and @winterandwords (and open tag if you're into it!)
Your prompts are:
Most likely to reluctantly try, and then gag, on a new food
Most likely to read fanfic (and pls tell us what their fandom is!)
Most likely to get a drink splashed in their face at a bar

I'm sending out Storyteller Saturday asks a day early this week, so answer at your leisure 💜
What's an interesting fact or piece of backstory about one of your characters that doesn't get discussed in detail in the story, but is essential lore in your head?
PS. I'm three parts into volume one of Sunset and I LOVE IT so far!!
😭😭😭😭 Ohmygoodness! Thank you so much! T_T I'm so glad you're enjoying it! Thank you for absolutely making my week!!!
And wow, what a great question
Penn Harris' backstory gets touched on in a "just the bullet points" sort of way, but we never really dive into his past and it's hugely influential on him as a person so now I'm gonna.
Penn Harris grew up an average kid of a struggling single mom in suburban Albany, NY. He was a chatty kid who liked ice skating and played in little league. Then his knack of telepathy showed up at around 11 years old. Telepathy works via synesthesia in the SunsetVerse, so it took him until 12 to actually figure out how to translate this sudden wash of smells into something he could understand.
Things started to fall apart once he could understand what his telepathy was telling him. Penn "heard" what his peers thought about him, how his teachers got annoyed at all his questions, and that his exhausted, overworked mom sometimes thought about what her life was like before having Penn and what it could have been like if she hadn't had him at all. All normal human thoughts people are allowed to have, but kids aren’t meant to hear those thoughts and he assumed she didn't want him around anymore.
Penn was figuring out how to run away so his mom could be happy again (in his mind) when one night his telepathy touched on someone else with telepathy. Penn snuck out and tracked this person down. The telepath he found was a member of the Church. He approached her and this is how he found out that it's possible to turn your telepathy off. Penn, desperate to be with people who understood him, begged the woman to take him with her and teach him how to quiet his telepathy.
He did not understand what he was in for.
The Church is a loose organization of nomadic knacked people of many faiths who roam the world, safehouse to safehouse, hunting Anthropophagi. It is a hard life and a dangerous one, let alone for a child.
Penn was expected to hunt like the rest of them so, machete in hand, little Penn would go out at night with his Church siblings and fight creatures who are a hundred times stronger than him, can heal nearly any wound, and, given the chance, would eat Penn alive.
Penn saw a lot of carnage, whether the bodies of Phagi victims the Church couldn't save in time, or watching his fellow members of the Church killed in front of him.
By the time he was 14, Penn had a scattering of scars (some from bites), a boat-load of trauma, two tattoos given to him by the Church, and a desire for his life to be anything but this. He believed that the Church's holy mission to rid the world of Anthropophagi was honorable and justified--still does--but Penn wanted out.
During his time in the Church, Penn learned snippets about the other two organizations: Entropy Games (run by a phage so even worse) and a little about SolCorp (who was cast in a negative light but not as bad as Entropy). Most importantly, he learned that SolCorp avoided the Phagi as a matter of policy.
So when Penn found himself in the Los Angeles area at 14, he left a Sanctuary, walked to SolCorp's headquarters, and asked them to take him in.
As he put it, Penn decided to give the devil he didn't know a try and now he is so much happier and at home in Sol.
Thank you so much for the question!

Find The Word X 3
Trying to catch up from earlier this week! I got tagged by @winterandwords @vsnotresponding and @gummybugg the last couple of days so I'm going to combine them! Thanks so much for the tags, folks! I love doing these.
I took a couple words from each tag so my words are kill, erase, stone, keep, kiss, empty, and smoke.
Stone
Ahead of them on the side of the road, he could see a large stone sign with the solar system logo carved in relief, the same logo he’d seen on Reeve’s laptop over his shoulder. Alex felt a flutter of nerves. "No one else is going to be dressed like this," he complained as Reeve slowed. “I'm serious, everyone's going to be in jeans and shit and then it's gonna be poindexter-me.” “I’m dressed like this,” he replied through thin lips. Alex rolled his eyes. “Oh, big consolation there.”
Kill & Erase--two for one!
The erasing of Icarus was done in the field by Retrieval teams-- Neptune agents tasked with finding Icarus on the run. It wasn’t the kind of thing normally done in a holding cell. It wasn’t unheard of for the Reintegration of a caught Icarus to fail, leading them to be erased, but it was rare and it had become even rarer since Freddie began running Neptune’s Reintegration branch. People across Sol may be frightened by Reintegration agents, but in truth, they just wanted to save every single Icarus out there. Killing someone meant failure. And what had happened with Colin was a symptom of a deep failure.
Kiss & Keep (Kept)
When her pens ran out of ink or her pencils wore down to nibs, she dropped them where she sat and picked up a new one from the cup of writing instruments that he kept constantly refilled. A clear bin on her desk was a third of the way filled with memory cards from her voice recorder. They’d brought in a twin bed for her to sleep on, though, last he’d heard, Dakota had to medicate her to get her to sleep at all. Rafe leaned over and kissed her head, though she didn’t seem to notice. She was thinner than before she’d gone under, and her hair had grown out a little to be slightly stringy and worse for wear. Her hands looked red and angry, the heel of her writing hand black with ink and graphite.
Empty
“Please god, not another telepath,” Gareth muttered. “Here here,” Hannah said, raising her beer. Gareth clicked the neck of his beer into hers with a chuckle. Sighing, Reeve raised his empty hand and mimed toasting with them.
Smoke
[context: this is at the SolCorp corporate Halloween party and in Sunset alcohol messes with mental knacks like telepathy] Jake wasn’t hungry but if he had a drink he would have something to do with his hands so he headed to a table lined with punch bowls made to look like large black cauldrons with smoke emanating from them. Two at the end had been labeled as non-alcoholic but someone, who’d clearly worked their way down the other punch bowls first, had scrawled, “Sad telepath juice,” on a piece of paper and propped it up in front of a blood-red drink with fruit floating in it. It seemed appropriate so he poured himself a glass.
No pressure tagging @iced-ginger-tea @weaver-of-fantasies-and-fables @void-botanist and @thatndginger Your words are: breath, pink, goodbye, and need

Is it weird to send my co-writer an STS ask? Maybe? But I'm curious and gonna make you write about it instead of just answering me in conversation haha
If you could swap places with any one character, who would you choose? Why? And what would they think about the swap?
idk but who cares, let's do it!
Well, I'm not swapping with any of our field agents. rip me. Or any of the telepaths. No, thank you. What a nightmare.
I'd probably swap with Marek. I don't especially want to be head of communications/HR/physical plant but it wouldn't get me immediately killed like a lot of other jobs at SolCorp. But! He does get to rescue shelter pets and bring them to the Uranus Pet Program, do silly Baguette updates, cheer people up, make menus and decorate for company holiday parties, and be a teleporter which is rad as hell.
I'm saying Marek would get to bring Baguette with him in our swap or else he'd be too sad.
He would probably be pumped to have a life where he is allowed to post on social media/the internet and he would immediately become a social media comic, influencer, or porn star--or all of the above.

🍂🍄🌲 for marek & 💫💦 for you!!
Thanks for the ask, friend! Marek it is! (Soft OC Ask Game is here)
🍂 Does your OC enjoy hugs? What do they do as a show of affection for: their friends, their family, their significant other(s) or for strangers? Over all what are they like with recieving affection from others?
Absolutely! He's a hugger and a cuddler and just an affectionate person in general. He's usually the tallest person in the room (unless Fox is there) so if he's around people he knows are comfortable, he shows affection by standing up close beside or behind them to offer them a place to lean or by draping his arm around their shoulders. He's always plenty happy and ready to receive affection as well.
🍄 What are your OCs favourite snacks? Their favourite comfort food which always cheers them up when they’re down? Favourite meal to make? Do they enjoy baking and cooking and are they any good in the kitchen?
For snacking, he'll go for dill pickle chips or s'mores granola bars. Teleporters tend to snack a lot or carry meal bars because it takes a lot out of you physically. Fave comfort foods are a good deli sandwich or deep dish pizza. He's not big on cooking but he'll bake for company parties.
🌲 How deeply does your OC feel? Are they typically empathetic or do they have a hard time connecting with others in this way? What are they like when offering support and comfort to someone they care for?
Hmm, this was an interesting one. Marek feels really deeply, actually. He's a goofball and a clown, but he's highly empathetic. He might be joking about slacking off and doing photoshoots with Bageutte, but he's a pretty sensitive guy. As far as cheering people up? Depending on the situation, his first instinct is to try to lighten the mood by doing something silly to make the person smile. If that doesn't work, or it's really not the time, the mask drops and he can sit in a dark place with someone--and god help you trying to get him to leave once he's determined to help.
💫What is your favourite fact about this character and why?
I love how much he cares. He's irreverent and goofy but he takes his job very seriously because he cares about his fellow SolCorp agents, their safety and their quality of life. All of them. People he doesn't know and will never meet. The Uranus department is a pretty thankless job. A lot of it is the stuff that people take for granted, are dismissive of, or annoyed by (HR paperwork). But he doesn't care about all that prestige stuff. He wants to make sure everyone is taken care of and comfortable. No thanks necessary.
💦 If you as the writer could erase one traumatic event from this OC’s life what would it be and why?
Gahhh he had a pretty significant trauma when he was a field agent where he lost his entire team, but that's the reason he ended up behind a desk and why he found his real passion in life. He didn't like fieldwork. He excels and enjoys his life so much more now as an administrator so I am super torn here. I'm gonna take a cop out answer here and say I wish I could prevent him from going through what he does in Arc 2 & 3.

Seven Snippets | Seven People
Both @winterandwords & @words-after-midnight tagged me in this one so here we go! Thanks for tagging me and giving me something fun to do on my lunch break! I took all of these from Arc 1 for a change.
1.
[context: Hannah is currently invisible ] “Do you need to put some clothes on?” Gareth asked. “You can’t bring a weapon like that." She smiled even though she knew they couldn’t see it. “I got it covered.” She went through her clothes in a pile on the backseat and pulled out a small box of razor blades. She held one up, turning it to catch the light and then fit it in her mouth between her teeth and cheek. Once it was in her mouth it would be invisible like the rest of her. “I’m not gonna lie,” Gareth sighed, “that’s gonna stress me out.”
2.
Marek del Sol couldn’t shake the, frankly true, thought that he wouldn’t have had to deal with this if he were still working in the Chicago Office. It was a selfish thought and he knew it but if he were still heading up the Uranus department of SolCorp’s Chicago branch when this whole Venus missing babies crisis hit, he would have been floored by it emotionally, obviously, but it would have fallen to the folks at SolCorp’s shiny Los Angeles Headquarters to manage the details of the fallout. Now here he was in LAHQ, promoted to one of Uranus’ top five ranked officers, Second in command no less, and it was very much his problem.
3.
“You know that assignment in Tokyo you’ve been dreading because you have no appreciation for culture?” Grace narrowed her eyes at the playful teasing. “I like culture just fine--it’s just too friggin’ hot in Tokyo this time of year. Send me someplace cold and I’ll just add layers with zero complaints but it’s not like I can remove my skin.” “Well, it’s been canceled.” “Oh.” She sat back and cringed. “What’s the bad news?” “I’m going to need you to step up and take on a higher workload after I go under.” Grace’s eyes widened. “Ma'am, I’m sure I could figure out a way to remove my skin if you give me like fifteen minutes.”
4.
“Do you know what they call people who need to get drunk after a mission in Mars? Gone soggy. Because they’ve been in too long and they should probably retire from the field.” He flicked a bottle cap off the edge of the porch. “Mars is crazy. You know that, right? They’ve got a weird-ass little culture of their own.” “All the departments do.”
5.
“I noticed,” Rich muttered beside him, “that you canceled our meeting for tomorrow.” Here we go. “I’m not dealing with that until after this crisis is over,” he replied as firmly as he could. That tone of voice tended to end a conversation, but Rich didn’t feel the same sense of deferment that others did. Neptune was maybe the one department head that was more intimidating than Mercury, and Rich had held the position for a long time.
6.
“Do you have a scope?” Reeve asked her. One huge benefit to being invisible is that she didn’t need to school her face when someone said something as absolutely stupid as that. “Are you asking if the sniper has a scope?” “I mean a spotting scope.” “Does the sniper have a--whatever, yes, here.” She handed it off. She started to get her rifle out but thought better of it and went over to make sure Reeve didn’t break it.
7.
“Reeve talked about Sol’s big thing. What does Entropy do?” “I don’t know.” “What do you mean you don’t know?” “They never told me.” Alex gave him his least impressed look. “They never told you.” Gareth’s face tensed up. “You got a look at what it’s like there. Would you piss those people off by pestering them with questions?” “You obviously don’t know me yet, because hell yes I would.” He pointed the screwdriver at him. “I’m pestering you, aren’t I?”
Phew! Now I gotta tag 7 people so here we go: @hon3yquill @imbrisvastatio @lettiekorywrites @writerrelapse @thatndginger @kjscottwrites & @fictionalbullshitter - no pressure tagging of course. Not 100% sure if all you folks are into tag games but I tried to keep it to people who are down.

3 & 5 for the pride ask game? Any ocs of your choice
Thanks so much for the ask! I did 3 here.
5. How did you figure out your oc's identity?
I'm gonna be completely honest, 95% of the time when these lil' guys show up in my head, I automatically assume they're bi/pan because that's most common (if they were raised in SolCorp) and that's just how my brain personally works. Gender I assume is cis with a big side-eye of "Wouldn't it be cool if you weren't tho?"
I get to know the character and live in their head for a bit see to how they perceive themselves/others--then I sometimes have moments of realization of, "Oh, damn. Jake is straight. Really? Okay then, good to know." Repeat for Scott being mlm only or Hannah being ace or Stormy being trans.
They just sort of are and sooner or later they make themselves known.

hiii, for the oc ask game
3. How did your oc discover themself? Did something cause them to question, or did they always know?
for reeve bc he's not totally allo and I'm curious how he gets there
-@vsnotresponding
Hi, friend! Thanks for the ask! Reeve loves it when I pry into his inner workings-- jk it took me *years* to work this out bc he's a secretive bastard 🤣🙃
(sorry this got so long! He's a complicated lil dingus)
Okay, I'm going to call Reeve semi-demi and pan.
The pansexual part he always knew. SolCorp was formed to protect knacked people from discrimination so they, internally, have tried to eradicate prejudice amongst themselves. It's far from perfect as they're still people who exist in the world but they made an effort.
As a result, most of Sol identifies as some shade of bi/pan.
For the semi-demi thing? Unless someone ends up pointing it out, Reeve might not ever realize he's not allosexual.
Sex sort of isn't on his radar the way it is for Gareth (his straight teammate), but, in his mind, it's not that he's not interested or doesn't think about sex a lot--he's just busy. He's got other things he's focused on that are far more important to him. He thinks he maybe ought to feel like he's missing out but his drive is easily overtaken by projects.
The biggest part, in his head, is that he's a telepath. Physical attraction is certainly something Reeve has for all genders but the determining factor is going to be if he likes to be around how your mind feels.
Telepathy is a synesthetic experience in this world, not just hearing thoughts word for word, and Reeve's telepathy is physical sensations, taste, and color combined. If he doesn't like the feeling of being around your mind, it's going to be a no go. But once he finds someone that he clicks with, (and his projects aren't in the way) his sexual attraction is off to the races.
Of all our telepaths, Reeve is by far the one who is most affected by this part of telepathy. For people like Penn or Anise, brain-vibes can be a factor in attraction but they're gonna bang who they feel like regardless.
So, at least at the start, Reeve thinks it's just a normal telepath thing. It's not.
(Should a telepath be more insightful/aware because he can know what people are thinking?? YES BUT THIS IS REEVE. HE'S KINDA DENSE ABOUT SOME STUFF)
Thanks again for the ask!

Pride asks: 2, 4, 5 and 9 for Reeve!
Thanks for the ask, friend! Reeve it is. (Pride oc game is here)
Cut added for scrolling sake
2. What's your oc's orientation? (Romantic/sexual/platonic alterous ect) Do they have opinions about it?
Reeve considers himself bisexual as a matter of course. It's normal for SolCorp culture so he never really questioned it. He's not easily clockable--one certain character (coughcoughAlex) would put that he seems too boring to be queer. I think Reeve is on the demi-spectrum for reasons explained in my answer to #3.
4. Is your oc's environment supportive about their identity? How does this impact them?
Yup! Sol's reason for existence is due to the human world's penchant for discrimination/violence so the Corp has taken a pretty adamant stand against things like that. The effect is that he got to grow up without imposed shame about being queer. (See? There's at least one perk lol)
5. How did you figure out your oc's identity?
5. is answered here in general. For Reeve specifically, when I made him originally I mapped him out in my head as gay but as time went on and he interacted with more people it was clear he was bi--which was a surprise!
For way too long there were a series of moments where we kept forgetting that and bursting out, "OH YEAH! He IS bi!" Meanwhile, Reeve's just standing there in my head like :| being all, "can we please not?"
9. Are there cultural or lore specific aspects to their identity? If applicable, does their species affect it?
Other than SolCorp being significantly more supportive?
Telepathy has gotta affect every part of your personality, right? So probably that's involved. Through his telepathy, he experiences people more intensely as minds than the physical presence so I imagine part of his bisexuality is affected by that being what he focuses on when knowing someone.
But it's less of a: "I don't care what's in your pants, I like your mind," and more of a: "I'm gonna like what's in your pants but if your head is not a vibe, I'm out."
Thanks again for the ask!

🐱🌑🎨 for the ask game!
Thanks so much for the ask!
🌑 - Is there reoccurring symbolism? Motifs? Answered in a previous ask!
🎨 - What colors or textures do you associate with the wip?
Gahhhh, I asked this one of someone because it's really cool but it's a tough one. I'm gonna break it down into threes. Yellow & smooth glass = SolCorp Black/white & rusty corrugated steel = Entropy Games Inc. Red & gritty soot = The Children of God
🐱 - What are the animals like? Pets? Local fauna?
It's a modern-day setting so no strange animals. A few of the characters from SolCorp do have pets though including a department head who is more-than-borderline obsessed with his hamster he named Baguette.

@stuffaboutwriting as;lskdfjsdlkfjaskldjskh You're gonna make me cry and make my month all in one swoop!
Low key, Penn is one of my favorite characters in the whole serial. Top three for sure. And your impression of him is dead on! I'm so excited that came through in my partner's art! And he absolutely uses his telepathy for his job. (Or less so since his promotion but the's the type of boss who can't sit behind a desk and needs to keep doing the actual work of it in the field. He's not sending his agents anywhere he wouldn't also go.) But yeah, telepathy is used by SolCorp to erase memories from regular people who may have seen someone levitating a car or witnessed a sonic screamer blow all the windows out of a Catholic children's home.
In thanks for making my month, here, have a Penn snippet on a call out to a report of that sonic screamer:
Penn walked down the hall, taking a couple of turns, having learned the layout from looking in the sisters’ minds. These were the calls Penn preferred. No one was grievously harmed or dead. No call is easy, but if they were all like this, he would sleep easier. When he came to a door at the end of a hallway, he paused to put in a pair of ear plugs. He could still hear but it would afford him some protection. The door was locked from the outside. He unlocked it. As an afterthought, picturing the image of the boy he'd taken from their minds, Penn quickly stripped off his tactical vest and face covering until he was down to his black long-sleeve shirt before opening the door. He had expected it to be a classroom but it was a storage closet. Against the wall sat a young boy, thirteen to fifteen, with his knees drawn up to his chest. His short hair was wheat blonde and he had a painfully cute upturned nose. It was clear he’d been crying and his eyes got big when he saw Penn standing above him. Penn crouched. “Hi,” he said. “Weird day, huh?” The boy’s eyebrows came down low over his blue eyes. “Who are you?” “My name’s Penn. I’m here to help you.” He sullenly worked his lips to one side then frowned. “I’m not possessed.” Penn didn’t bother hiding his surprise. “I never thought you were.” He didn’t want to use his telepathy in case the boy was somehow able to feel it and it set him off again. “What’s your name?” “Phillip. I hate it. The sisters didn’t call you? They say I’m possessed.” “No.” Penn shifted to sit more comfortably on the floor. “And you’re not possessed.” “I know.” He liked the kid's conviction. “Did something bad happen today?”
Character Profile: Penn Harris
Tumblr media
It's been a minute but here's the next profile as drawn by my co-writer & partner! Penn is our favorite curmudgeon. He has one of the hardest jobs in all of SolCorp: he runs the division responsible for making sure the outside world doesn't discover the existence of knacked people.
So when some drunk telekinetic 20-something leaves a bar and decides it would be fun to make a car levitate and bystanders throw it up on tiktok, it's Penn's job to keep it out of the news. Poor bastard.
